Vittoria is a vibrant presence and knows almost every inch of this wonderful coastline - its paths, its hill-perched villages, its secret corners. She sells organic olive oil, vinegar, preserves, nuts and lemons on her terraced five hectares. The cocks crow at dawn, distant dogs bark in the early hours and fireflies glimmer at night in the lemon groves. It's rural, the sort of place where you want to get up while there’s still dew on the vegetables. The names of the bedrooms reflect their conversion from old farm buildings - Stalla, Fienile, Balcone, and they are simply but solidly furnished. Excellent dinners are served to guests together; breakfast is taken at your own table under the pergola, and may include raspberries, apple tart and fresh fruit juices. You must descend to coast level to buy your postcards, but this is a great spot from which to explore, and to walk - the CAI Alta via di Lattari footpath is nearby. No pool, but Vittoria has arranged a special price with a private swimming club five kilometres away. Le Tore is heaven to return to after a day's sightseeing, with views of the sea. Rivista Giapponese Le Tore is an organic farm perched high up the hillside above Sant'Agata, and it's all that an agriturismo could ever hope to be: a lovely converted house for guests - in a very good taste - surrounded by vegetable gardens, olive groves and animals. Last time I visited, the courtyard looked like a scene from 101 Dalmatians, with a huge family of puppies playing in it. The farm's owner, Vittoria Brancaccio, makes prize-winning oil - this year she took first prize at he Sirena d'Oro at Sorrento - as well as delicious jams and many other fruit and vegetable preserves. There is a great food to be had too - all in all, a gem.

Sapore e Piaceri Founded in 1985, the Le Tore estate and farmhouse holiday facility spans 14 hectares along the ridge that divides the gulf of Naples from that of Salerno. The olives come from 2 farms: the Villa Murat one, with its historic olive groves and lemon pergolas peering out onto Capri; and that of Conca Azzurra, where centuries old olive trees grow right next to the sea, on the slopes of an ancient lime quarry. Since 1994 the Le Tore Farm has abided by the control and certification system for organic farming, and for the past eight years it has been hosting the experimental field for organic olive farming of the Agricultural Department of the Campania Region. Furthermore, it has been chosen to host the catalogue field of the autochthonous grapevines of the Sorrento Peninsula and is registered in the Educational Farm Register of the Campania Region. Farmhouse holidays are available in a carefully renovated 18th century farm, the ideal environment for those who wish to escape from the stress of city life.

Agriturismo Italia
